Why now
Three things happened
at the same time.
For years data glasses failed on weight, looks and battery. The current generation weighs about as much as sunglasses, looks like sunglasses and lasts through a meeting. That removes the biggest hurdle: people put them on willingly.
A camera on your head was long just a camera on your head. With multimodal models it becomes an assistant that sees, understands and responds in real time: translating, explaining, logging, guiding step by step. The glasses are the interface, the AI is the reason.
Industrial data glasses cost four figures each and needed their own project. Today audio and AI glasses sit in the price range of a smartphone. A pilot with ten devices is no longer an investment request, but a decision within the team.
