May 2022 saw the technical delivery in Vienna of an ambitious event – the first press conference in the metaverse. The Austrian National Tourist Office demonstrated its affinity for new technologies by holding the conference on tourism in Austria not only live but in virtual space as well.
Using the Oculus Quest 2 and the AltSpaceVR application, participants were invited to attend the press conference as avatars. Guests from Switzerland and Germany could take part through the metaverse application in parallel with the real conference, alongside Sandra Neukart (COO of the Austrian National Tourist Office), Gerhard Stübe (President of the Austrian Convention Bureau) and Christian Woronka (spokesperson for the regional convention bureaux and head of the Vienna Convention Bureau).
The metaverse has been impossible to ignore among tech trends for months. The Austrian National Tourist Office has now shown at a press conference during the Austrian Tourism Days how this new technology can be used in everyday work.
