Innovation workshop in the district of Görlitz
To drive forward innovation and structural change in the district of Görlitz, FUTURE CANDY went in search of innovative ideas as part of a citizens' innovation workshop. The project was commissioned by the Entwicklungsgesellschaft Niederschlesische Oberlausitz.
The Challenge.

The district of Görlitz, a coal region, faces numerous challenges. Shaped by economic strengths in mining, textiles, IT, mechanical engineering and vehicle construction, Germany's easternmost district is on its way towards structural change.
The Solution.

gemacht haben.
In a two-day hybrid innovation workshop we developed new ideas for more innovation in the district together with its citizens. At the end of the workshop the ideas were assessed, finalised in the form of business model canvases and will be worked out further in follow-up live workshops.
The background to the region's challenges is above all the coal phase-out, which will mean the loss of 8,000 jobs and a further 16,000 among service providers. To drive strategic structural change, the aim is above all to strengthen local companies and attract new mid-sized businesses. To create a strong connection to their region for participants and to give local institutions a boost, the Kaufhaus Totschek in Görlitz was chosen as the location for our workshop streaming. It belonged to a Jewish family until 1938 and has stood empty for several decades. Alongside hosting the workshop, other projects and renovation measures are intended to bring new life into the old building. Our very first workshop already showed that people from the Görlitz region have a great interest in developing their home area further and contribute ideas to it. We are looking forward to the developments and projects to come and are glad to accompany the district on this exciting path.
What stuck
in the end.
The innovation workshop forms the starting point for a strong community that shapes the district's future together. Beyond that, the first results are already being developed further and provide inspiration for new ideas.
