The future of educational materials: Greenpeace x FUTURE CANDY

How can educational materials be thought of digitally in future – beyond static PDFs, towards dynamic learning formats that fit their audience? With that guiding question, Greenpeace and FUTURE CANDY started an exploratory project to realign its digital education strategy.

The Challenge.

The task
we faced.

Greenpeace has offered high-quality educational content on climate and environmental topics for years – above all for schools and people interested in learning. This content is editorially strong, but until now existed mainly as static PDFs: hard to adapt, barely interactive and only of limited use for contemporary digital learning formats. Together with Greenpeace we therefore asked how this existing educational offering could be sensibly modernised without having to produce the content again.

The Solution.

Was wir daraus
gemacht haben.

The result was a clear structural and technical target picture for a digital education platform – including an MVP concept, technical requirements, a realistic cost framework and an assessment of potential implementation partners. Feasibility was also validated independently through an external expert report.

In a multi-stage innovation project we analysed how teachers, pupils and other audiences use the materials today, which components can be modularised and which digital formats are suitable for them. In parallel we assessed technological options, examined international best practices and checked how a future solution could be implemented in line with data protection rules and compatibly with existing Greenpeace systems.

The payoff

What stuck
in the end.

The result is a robust basis for decision-making at Greenpeace. Instead of vague digitalisation ambitions there is now a concrete roadmap for implementing and trialling new digital education formats. That means existing content can be delivered more flexibly, more currently and more effectively in future – as a sustainable alternative to static PDFs.
